How Do You Pressure Clean a Driveway?
Oil, gas, grease, salt, and other debris can stain your driveway. Pressure cleaning or pressure washing is one of the most effective methods of getting rid of stains from your driveway. You only need a powerful pressure washer, safety gear, and some elbow grease for this purpose. Here are some of the steps you need to take when pressure washing the driveway.
The first step is to clean the driveway with a large broom to prepare it for pressure washing. If there are any walls or doors near the driveway, you need to cover them up with tarps. Tarps will help protect the finish of the walls and doors near the driveway. The next step is to degrease the concrete surface of the driveway. This will help to break down any stubborn stains on the driveway. Most pressure washing machines come with an attachment to degrease the surface. If not, you should buy a stiff brush for the process.
The next step is to prepare the pressure washer. The unit should have the right tip for the process. Check out the owner’s manual if you aren’t sure about what attachments the pressure washer should have. Once you get the right tip, make sure to attach the spray wand to the unit with a pressure hose. Wear the safety gear before you start using the pressure washer to clean the driveway.
Load the washer with appropriate detergent and start washing the driveway at the highest end. That way the water will flow down the surface. Point the sprayer wand at the surface of the concrete and spray the detergent. Once you cover the entire driveway, let the detergent sit there for at least 20 minutes. Don’t let the detergent dry up, make sure you rinse off the detergent. Now switch to a high-pressure wand tip to rinse off the surface. This will wash away the detergent as well as any stains on the surface.
Can Concrete Be Damaged By Pressure Washing?
Although most people think that concrete is extremely durable, it isn’t always the case. Even the concrete surface can be damaged when pressure washing is performed by an inexperienced person. A powerful pressure washing machine can also remove the protective layer of the concrete. Once the protective layer is destroyed, the concrete surface becomes vulnerable to natural elements. Holding the spraying wand way too close to the surface can also damage the concrete surface.
Removing Oil Stains From Your Driveway?
If your car leaks fluids, the driveway will end up with a stain. Other vehicle oils and fluids can also leave stains on your driveway. That’s why you need to know how to remove oil stains from the driveway. The first step is to determine whether the stain is wet or dry. If the stain is new, cover it with baking soda, cornmeal or cornstarch. It will help absorb the extra moisture on the surface. Once the surface is dry, check if the stain is still there. If so, wet the stain with water and scrub it with a stiff brush. Rinse the surface with water and let it dry.
